We have come up against much tutting when we bought Hannah’s first horse Nelson. He is a thoroughbred ex sprint racer and many people told us how unsuitable this breed is and that ex racers are even worse. We were fortunate in that Hannah had Nelson on loan for some time but when the chance came to buy him there was no doubt that he would become a permanent fixture. Thoroughbreds would appear to be much miligned but in our experience with care and some retraining make lovely companions capable of turning their hooves to most things. They also have the advantage of being very beautiful and elegant. When it came time for Hannah to look for a second horse she did look around however, we were joined by Paddy who is also an ex race horse this time over sticks. The hope is that he will take his experiences and use them for cross country and hunting. Time will tell.
